Dr. Janet Shimotake is a neonatologist who cares for pregnant patients and babies with a high chance for complications during birth. She attends high-risk deliveries to resuscitate and stabilize babies, and cares for premature infants, as well as those born with surgical issues, respiratory failure, or neonatal encephalopathy and seizures.

After the highest-risk babies graduate from the intensive care nursery, Shimotake continues to follow up on their care for as long as 15 years. She also works on quality improvement in the nursery, and she trains residents and fellows in neonatology.

Shimotake earned her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Pritzker School of Medicine and University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital. She completed a fellowship in neonatal and perinatal medicine at UCSF. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Shimotake and her husband are raising their family in San Francisco. They are stalwart San Francisco Giants fans and experts on ballpark food. Her family loves taking advantage of all that Northern California has to offer, including cultural experiences, hiking, biking, skiing and camping.
