Laura Chalkley

MS

Orthoptist
Animal lover and grilled cheese aficionado

Laura Chalkley is an orthoptist, an eye care specialist who assesses disorders of visual development, eye muscle function and the eyes' ability to work as a pair. She provides support and expertise to physicians who care for adult and pediatric patients with strabismus, a disorder in which the eyes don't look in the same direction.

Chalkley treats some patients with strabismus and amblyopia – a condition in which abnormal development limits sight in one eye – using eye patching, exercises or glasses. She also sees patients for follow-up visits.

Chalkley earned her bachelor's degree in orthoptics at the University of Liverpool. She earned a postgraduate certificate in clinical studies and management from the University of Brighton, then returned to the University of Liverpool for a master's degree in psychology. She is a member of the International Strabismological Association and American Association of Certified Orthoptists.

In her free time, Chalkley enjoys traveling, hiking and volunteering. Her interests include psychology, social justice, behavioral economics and the bond between humans and animals.
