Social worker
Michelle Wright is a social worker who works with children and teens with blood diseases. She takes an interactive approach, assisting patients and their families as they cope with the emotions and stress associated with chronic illness. Her goal is to provide support that allows individuals and families to gain a sense of control over their circumstances. She often works with patients on a short-term basis, helping them navigate a new diagnosis.
Wright has more than 20 years of experience in social work. For several years before joining UCSF in 2013, she worked in New York with youths in foster care and as a therapist for teenagers with complex mental health needs. She is trained in trauma-informed care (an approach that enhances safety and healing by recognizing the ongoing effects of past traumatic events) and multiple other therapy practices.
