Amanda Parker is a pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for children having surgery. She works with anesthesia, perioperative and surgical teams to prepare patients; performs physical exams; and educates families about what to expect before, during and after surgery.

Parker earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Columbia University, followed by a master's degree in nursing from UCSF.

    The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.
