Sanjeev Sabharwal, MD, MPH

Pediatric orthopedic surgeon

Dr. Sanjeev Sabharwal is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who treats children and young adults with a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal problems, such as limb deformities, limb length discrepancies, and injuries to bones and soft tissues. He is also an expert in complex limb reconstruction.

Sabharwal earned his medical degree at Maulana Azad Medical College in India. He completed a residency in general surgery at Mercy Health ¬– St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and a residency in orthopedics at the University of British Columbia. He then completed fellowships in clinical orthopedics at Boston University School of Medicine, in pediatric orthopedics at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and in pediatric orthopedics at Shriners for Children Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in limb lengthening and reconstruction at the International Center for Limb Lengthening.

Prior to joining UCSF, Sabharwal served as chief of pediatric orthopedics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he was a professor of orthopedics and director of the residency program.

Sabharwal, past president of the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society, is frequently invited to speak at national and international meetings on orthopedic medicine. He is involved in global outreach in the field of orthopedics and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and Scoliosis Research Society. He has been an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2010.

Sabharwal serves as deputy editor for two eminent orthopedic journals, Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. He has edited a comprehensive textbook on lower limb deformities in children.
